Before the University of Wisconsin became known for its running backs, Stephen Dixon dominated the list of the best ball carriers in the State of Wisconsin.

A powerhouse at Big Foot High School in Walworth, Wisconsin, Dixon had a similar impact with the Beloit College football team as a four-year letter winner and four-time First Team All-Midwest Conference selection from 1990-1993.

A two-time Champion Honorable Mention All-American, Dixon led the Buccaneers to three consecutive MWC North Division titles including back-to-back undefeated divisional seasons in 1990 and 1991. Following an 8-2 campaign his freshman season, the Bucs rolled to a 9-1 record in 1991. Dixon registered over 1,000 yards rushing each of his four seasons. By the end of his four-year career, Dixon had amassed 4,792 rush yards breaking the program record (which still stands), the MWC record, and the state record for collegiate backs. He capped his career with MWC Offensive Player of the Year honors in 1993.

A quick glance at the program and conference record books showcases Dixon's impact. At the time of his graduation in 1994, Dixon held or shared 18 Beloit College records. Even 30 years after Dixon began his career at Beloit, Dixon holds the top three records for rushing attempts in a game and the top two marks for rushing attempts in a season. His 274 yards on 49 carries against St. Norbert in 1993 are both program records, as is his four-touchdown game against Ripon. Dixon's career marks for rushing attempts (986), rush yards (4,792), rush yards per season (1,198), rushing touchdowns (45), scoring (282), and overall touchdowns (47) are all program records.

In the league, he holds top ten marks in career rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and carries. His eight 100-yards rushing games in 1992 is tied for fifth while his 25 career games with 100 or more rushing yards ranks second in conference history.

Dixon won the Donald 'Red' Janssen Award as Beloit's top junior male student-athlete in 1992 and was inducted into the Beloit College Hall of Honor in 2005.
