Biography
Lana Poshepny (Wieseman), Beloit College Women’s Basketball (2012-2016)
My first experience at Beloit College was as a fan in the Flood Arena bleachers, cheering for my older brother and the Beloit men’s basketball team when I was a sophomore in high school. It did not cross my mind that Beloit might also be my future alma mater until I was recruited my senior year of high school by Coach Jennifer McCormick. Although I visited and considered many other basketball programs, no coaching staff or team culture compared in enthusiasm and sense of community, both of which were constant throughout my basketball career at Beloit. My personal successes on the court pale in comparison to achievements we shared as a team, including finishing the 2015-2016 season with the best record under the coaching staff’s tenure, as well as achieving the 10th highest team GPA among Division III programs in the country during the 2013-2014 season. Although we only played four years of basketball together, the strong friendships with my teammates are what I will always cherish from my college experience.
Throughout my years at Beloit, I gained a new perspective of myself and my ability to reach goals I set for myself. I discovered I could be successful on the basketball court, while also realizing and developing many other aspects of who I am and what I want in my life. It was my sophomore year at Beloit when I decided to pursue a career in healthcare, and I am now in my final semester of the post-master’s certificate nurse practitioner program at Marquette University.
Beloit now holds a special, irreplaceable piece of my heart for so many reasons. I was able to play the sport I love, create lifelong friendships with my teammates, earn an excellent education, discover my future career goals, and meet the man who is now my husband! I can confidently say I will always be a fan of Beloit College basketball. Go Bucs!
