Coach Stapay brings a lifetime of experience and knowledge to Beloit College. She attended Morris Community High School in Morris, Illinois, where she had a standout four-year varsity career that included All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State honors. After starting out at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Stapay transferred to Joliet Junior College averaging .448 and collecting All-Region IV and All-State honors while the team finished as NJCAA regional runner-up. She transferred to Bradley University, and in her senior season she hit .404 in the tough Missouri Valley Conference, led the team to a 33-8 record, and earned Second Team All-Conference honors. She was awarded the Bradley University Athlete of the Year in 1994, given to the university’s most outstanding athlete. For her career at Bradley and in the Missouri Valley Conference, she is in the record books for single season average (.404; 6th in Bradley history), single season on-base percentage (.474; 5th in Bradley history), career average (.368; 13th in conference history, 2nd in Bradley history), and career on-base percentage (.427; 5th in Bradley history).
