Jim Winter enters his first season as volunteer assistant pitching coach and player development coach for Beloit College’s baseball team.
It’s a return home for Winter, who played all four seasons at Beloit, graduating in 1997. He was a relief pitcher for the Buccaneers. A three-year letter winner, Winter had a perfect 0.00 ERA in Midwest Conference play in 1996. In 1997, he led the team with 12 pitching appearances.
After college, Winter, a native of Decatur, Ill., managed amateur and semi-pro baseball in southern Wisconsin and northeast Iowa for 24 years. His two best seasons as manager came with the semi-pro Dubuque (Iowa) Blues in 2010 and 2011, where he was a combined 88-25
with multiple semi-pro tournament championships.
Winter lives in Beloit and has one daughter. When he’s not working or involved in Beloit baseball, you can likely find him out saving history via metal detecting.
