Joe Butz joined the Buccaneer football coaching staff prior to the 2019 season. He will serve as the defensive backs coach, special teams coordinator and strength and conditioning coordinator.Â
Butz comes to Beloit after a year at MacMurray College where he coached safeties and was the team's strength and conditioning coach. In 2018, two defensive backs under Butz's tutelage earned all-conference honors. In addition to coaching duties, Butz also bolstered the team's recruitment in Illinois, California, Washington, Oregon and Idaho.Â
Prior to MacMurray, Butz spent two seasons at Rockford University gaining experience coaching the defensive line, running backs and tight ends. Four players earned all-conference recognition under his coaching. He also served as the team's academic coordinator and assisted in recruiting for the Regents.Â
Butz received a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from North Park University in 2016. A four-year letterwinner for NPU as a linebacker, Butz was named a captain of the squad in 2015 and earned Academic All-America honors three seasons. He went on to receive a Master of the Arts in Teaching Physical Education from Rockford University in 2018.Â
