The Beloit College men's basketball team fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering 91-69 on the road Saturday evening to open the 2018-19 season.
MSOE was on fire on their home court hitting 77% of their shots from field goal range in the first half and 65% from the floor in the game.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a quick lead as Andrew Walters completed the and-one followed by back-to-back layups from Tristan Shoup and Matthew Miller to give Beloit a five-point advantage 7-2.
MSOE went on a small run to take the lead before a back-and-forth battle ensued. The team's traded small runs and the lead until an 11-0 spurt from MSOE made it a ten-point gap, 35-25, with under five minutes to play in the first half. MSOE would widen the gap to 15, their largest of the half just 30 seconds before the halftime horn but Miller hit a buzzer-beater off an assist from Walters to cut the lead to 13, 43-30, at the break.
MSOE was 17-22 (77%) from the floor in the first half compared to 12-29 (41%) for the Bucs.
There were seven lead changes in the first half but the Bucs were unable to reclaim the lead throughout the second half.
Darin Empereur was one of four Buccaneers in double digits leading Beloit with 16 points. Shoup added 14 points and led the Bucs with eight boards. Miller tallied 14 points and Walters added 12, three assists and three steals.
