Bucs Play in Primetime, Under the Lights in Jacksonville

The Beloit College football team fell to Illinois College 63-20 under the lights and on the road Saturday night.

The Blueboy offense was sparked on special teams as a blocked punt was returned for a touchdown and the early 7-0 IC lead. The Blueboy offense surged after the special teams play jumping out to a 20-0 lead after the first quarter. The gap swelled to a 42-0 margin in favor of IC at halftime.

The Buccaneers got on the board in the third quarter. Juan Reyes bolstered a six play, 51-yard drive with a 29-yard run taking the Bucs down to the IC 18. Quarterback Erick Mitchell found one of his favorite targets, Tyler Korous, for a five-yard strike at the 8:29 mark in the third to put the finishing touch on the drive. Andy Berlin's point after made it 49-7.

In the fourth, the Buc defense caused a turnover leading to another Beloit score. On the first play of an IC drive, Patrick Nicolas recovered a Blueboy fumble at the IC 26. Mitchell went for 10 yards on two carries and Reyes found pay dirt with a 16-yard scamper. Berlin's kick sailed through the uprights bringing the score to 56-14.

The Buc defense, again, turned over the Blueboy offense. On the Blueboys' fourth play of the drive, Broakeen Sheffield picked off IC quarterback Deavon Puck. The two-yard return gave Beloit great field position at the Illinois 34.

Mitchell found Ethan Conley for a four-yard completion and Reyes took the Bucs into the redzone with an 11-yard run. Back-to-back runs of ten and eight yards for Reyes respectively took Beloit down to the one-yard line where Mitchell punched it in on the quarterback keeper. The point after was no good making the score 56-20.

Reyes registered 155 yards on 15 carries including the touchdown run in the game. Quarterbacks Marcos Camacho and Mitchell combined to complete 14 of 34 attempts for 101 yards and a touchdown. Korous was on the receiving end of five completions tallying 38 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Silas Say recorded 10 tackles including six solo and four assisted. Xavier Haynes and Trey Bishop each added six tackles in the contest.

Up Next: The Bucs will host Macalester College Saturday, October 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
