Bucs Fall at Wheaton

The Beloit College baseball team fell to the Thunder of Wheaton College on the road Friday evening 9-3.

Jalen Davis and Ethan Conley combined for half of Beloit's eight hits in the game with two apiece. Davis added a run scored while Conley registered a RBI.

The Thunder struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first on two hits.

After four innings of scoreless ball, Beloit got on the board in the top of the sixth. Nick Schmidt got things going drawing a walk with one-out. Davis followed with one of his two hits in the game, a single to the shortstop and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Jeremy Dutton took a free pass to load the bases and one run crossed the plate on Conley's infield single. Following a change on the mound for Wheaton, Bronson Balholm reached on a fielder's choice with the defense opting to take the out at second base and allowing another Buc to touch home and tie the game 2-2.

The Thunder responded with big offensive innings in the sixth and seventh totaling seven runs to take a 9-2 advantage.

The Buccaneers opened the top of the ninth with back-to-back singles and scored their third run of the game courtesy of a Thunder miscue.

Four Bucs saw action on the mound with Mike Weeden suffering the loss in 5.1 innings of work.

Beloit will host MSOE for their home opener Sunday at 1 p.m.
