The Beloit College men's lacrosse team improved to 4-2 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference with a 14-8 win over Cornell College on the road Wednesday night.
Despite a relatively even contest statistically, the Bucs found the back of the net 11 times in the first half to bolster the win. Beloit held a narrow advantage in shots (34-33), groundballs (55-51) and faceoffs (13-12) while the Rams were more efficient in clearing the ball than BC in the game.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a quick lead in the game with Michael Boyland registering goals less than a minute apart. Michael Spencer recorded the assist on Boyland's first goal at 12:52 and Matt Lee tallied the helper at 12:11 to make it 2-0. Kevin Joswiak made good on a pass from Lee at the 9:34 mark to make it 3-0 Bucs before Cornell came back with two goals less than two minutes apart to pull to within one, 3-2.
The teams traded goals the rest of the quarter with the Bucs taking a 6-4 lead into the second quarter.
Nick Meisberger notched his ninth goal of the season just 10 seconds into the second quarter to make it 7-4 Beloit.
Joswiak found Gannon on a man-up opportunity that made it 8-4 with 9:18 left in the half. Boyland found the back of the net again at 7:41 to give the Bucs a 9-4 lead. Less than 40 seconds later Spencer tallied an unassisted goal. Gannon scored the Buccaneers' final goal of the half at the 4:42 mark to widen the gap to 11-4.
Lee, Joswiak and Gannon added goals in the third quarter to seal the win for the Bucs.
Gannon and Boyland each registered four goals in the game with Gannon adding a helper. Joswiak and Lee each tallied two scores and two assists.
John Murphy picked up the win making 14 saves in 45 minutes in net.
Up Next: The Bucs are slated to host North Central University Saturday at 1 p.m. at Strong Stadium.
