The Beloit College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes with Augustana College Monday afternoon in Beloit.
The Buccaneers fell behind just five minutes in after an unfortunate set of circumstances. As a Buc defender attempted to head the ball back to keeper Connor Keegan-Lloyd, the ball shot over the hands of Keegan-Lloyd and bounced into the goal.
Beloit will go into the half facing that 1-0 deficit. The Buccaneer offense came out fired up in the second half getting off 11 shots including one that found the back of the net.
In the 63rd minute, Courtney Ceurvorst took a belted a free kick from near midfield into the box. Genesis Dade flicked the ball on toward the right post and Hanna Metcalfe elevated the ball into the top right corner of the goal for the equalizer.
The Augustana offense put pressure on the Buc defense but the Buccaneers, and keeper Kaitlyn Tomasin-Erickson, stood their ground. The Vikings' best chance came in the final minutes of regulation. In the 89th minute, Augustana's Jenna Dvorak got her head on a cross in the box but the shot caromed off the crossbar.
The defenses took over in the first overtime as neither team mustered a quality shot in the first ten minutes.
Augustana nearly notched the game-winner as Dvorak headed a ball sent in from the corner but for the second time the shot hit the crossbar and bounced out of play. The Bucs thwarted the Vikings' final chance on a corner kick as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Tomasin-Erickson, named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday for her performances last week, continued her stellar play in goal with three saves in three periods of shutout play in goal.
The Bucs return to league action with a weekend homestand. Beloit will host Knox College Saturday followed by Illinois College Sunday. Both contests are scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
