Bucs Down Macalester to Wrap up ACM Tournament

The Beloit College softball team picked up their first win of the season in their final game in the ACM Dome Tournament in Rochester, Minn. Sunday afternoon.

The Bucs bounced back from a first game loss to down Macalester 7-1 to wrap up play in the ACM Tournament.

Facing a 1-0 deficit heading into the top of the third, the Bucs got their bats going and scored multiple runs in the next three innings of the game. Junior pitcher Alyssa Boltik (Elm Grove, Wis.) sparked the offense with a single and advanced to second on the play to lead off the top of the third. A sacrifice bunt moved Boltik to third. After a ground out and a walk, Boltik was driven in on a RBI ground-rule double off the bat of first-year designated player Alyssa Morris (Aurora, Ill.). Senior right fielder Emily Malarski (Chicago, Ill.) made it back-to-back two baggers to bring in two more runs and give the Bucs a 3-1 advantage.

Beloit's defense blanked Macalester's offense the rest of the way while the Bucs' offense added two insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Buccaneers scored two on one hit in the fourth followed by two more on two hits in the fifth.

Malarski led the Bucs' offensively driving in three runs on 3-for-4 from plate including two doubles.

Boltik picked up the win on the mound going the distance for the seven-inning win. She allowed just one run on five hits and struck out three.

In the first game of the day, Bucs fell to UW-River Falls 16-3 in a shortened game. Three first-years gained some valuable experience on the mound for Beloit in the game including Morgan Lippert (Williams Bay, Wis.), Mackenzie Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Morris.

Junior Ashley Lambert posted a phenomenal weekend in the batter's box going 6-for-10 with two runs batted in and two walks. Malarski ended the weekend with three hits in three games played, two doubles and three RBI. Six Bucs saw action in the circle including five first-years with their first collegiate appearances on the mound.

On Deck: The Buccaneers will head to Kissimmee, Fla. To compete in the Sunkissed Games March 11-18. Beloit returns to the Midwest for a doubleheader at Rockford University March 21.
