Buc Men Win, Women Fall to Loras

The Beloit College swimming and diving program was not deterred by the snowstorm that swept through the area Friday night making the trek to Dubuque, Iowa Saturday morning to face Loras College. The Buccaneer men registered the victory 103-92 while the women were edged 97-76. 

John Rose III, Joe Stephenson and Meshach Roberts each registered individual event wins in the lanes Saturday. Rose III captured the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.09. Stephenson was tops in the 50 free stopping the clock in 23.11 and Roberts came into the wall first in the 200 backstroke registering a time of 2:10.95.Off the diving board, Wil Kangas-Olson added nine points to the team total with an 11-dive total of 433.50.

Rose was also the stop Buccaneer in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.27 for second place. Brandon Washburn notched two runner-up finishes with a time of 12:34.39 in the 1000 free and a 5:51.62 in the 500 free.

Other top finishers for the Buc men include Karl Weiler in the 200 individual medley (2:32.66), Aaron Jolley in the 200 butterfly (2:10.37) and Alan Brint in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.04) as each finished in second.

Beloit's foursome consisting of Tenajh Gaitor, Jolly, Roberts and Stephenson in the 200-yard freestyle relay topped the competition with a clocking of 1:34.53. The combination also teamed up for the 200 medley relay finishing second with a time of 1:44.88.

Eliana Ritt and Alex Kohn led the Buccaneer women. Ritt captured first place in two events, the 200 individual medley (2:22.82) and the 200 backstroke (2:24.30) while Kohn was tops in the 50 free (27.75).

Makenna Downing registered a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:24.99 and was the top Buc to finish in the 200 freestyle with a clocking of 2:22.00 for third place. Kaylie Williams and Padyn O'Keefe added second place points to the team's total in the 100 free (1:03.90) and 200 breaststroke (2:48.71) respectively.

Both Bucs' relay squad finished second Saturday. The Beloit foursome of Ritt, O'Keefe, Kohn and Williams were clocked in 2:03.72 in the 200 medley relay. Lilly Calvert, Natalie Gallagher, Ana Kohout and Valley StipeMaas combined to record a time of 2:33.29 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Next Up: The Bucs will compete at the Wisconsin Private College Championships in Kenosha Saturday, January 26. The meet is slated to begin at noon.
