Men's Swimming and Diving

Swimmers Split Double Dual

The Beloit College men's and women's swimming and diving team split a double dual at Kresge Natatorium Saturday defeating North Central College and falling to Ripon College.

First-year Eliana Ritt continued a stellar freshman campaign for the Buccaneers in the pool topping the competition in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Ritt touched the wall more than eight seconds before the second-place finisher to win the 200 free with a time of 2:03.00. In the 100 fly, her time of 1:02.48 marks her season-best and topped the competition by nearly two seconds and Ritt's 1:04.91 in the 100 back is just seven-tenths of a second off program-record pace.

Kaylie Williams was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle recording a time of 1:04.93. Padyn O'Keefe also tallied a second-place finish with a time of 1:19.68 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

O'Keefe (29.84) and Natalie Gallagher (31.49) notched season bests finishing third and fifth respectively in the 50-yard freestyle to lead Beloit in the event. In the 200-yard individual medley, Anna Bunzel posted the Bucs' top time stopping the clock in 2:35.15 to finish third.

Both of the Bucs' relay teams, 200 medley and 400 freestyle, finished third.

The Buccaneers' 200-yard medley relay team combined for the top time on the day. Meshach Roberts, Tenajh Gaitor, David Morris and Joe Stephenson were clocked in 1:43.65, to win the relay by less than a tenth of a second. Roberts, Gaitor and Stephenson also tallied individual event victories at the meet.

Roberts was the first to touch in the 500-yard freestyle. His time of 5:25.64 won the event by nearly 20 seconds. Roberts also claimed second-place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:29.38. Stephenson competed in another tight finish in the 50 free. Gaitor won the 100 fly with a time of 57.17 and came into the wall first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.01. Stephenson just out-touched the Ripon sprinter to register a time of 22.90, winning by just one-hundredth of a second.

The Bucs' Karl Weiler finished third in the 100 back registering a time of 1:09.71 and Stephenson added a third-place finish in the 100 free (51.54) to lead Beloit in the events.

Beloit will head to Appleton, Wisconsin to compete in the Lawrence University Invite November 17.
