Buc Women Edged by Eagles

The Beloit College women's basketball team fell to Edgewood College 67-57 in their final game of the Loras College Tip-Off Classic in Dubuque, Iowa Saturday afternoon.

Beloit trailed but stayed close in a tight first quarter. The Bucs' never trailed by more than five in the first ten minutes and Shelby Kline led the Bucs on a 5-0 run to close the quarter with a 12-11 lead.

The Bucs continued that run into the second quarter taking a 19-13 advantage with 7:22 left in the half before Edgewood responded with an 11-2 run to reclaim the lead 24-21 with just over five minutes to play.

With the score knotted at 26, the Eagles scored seven of the final nine points of the half to head into intermission with a 35-28 lead.

Beloit whittled away at the gap eventually tying the game once again on a Christy Melton free throw with 1:18 remaining in third at 46-46. Edgewood hit a jumper to close out the quarter as the team's went into the final period of play in a close, two-point game.

Kline opened the fourth with a three pointer and followed with a free throw in the Bucs' next possession to give Beloit a two-point lead, 50-48, with seven minutes remaining in the contest but Edgewood followed with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to take a double digit lead that they would carry the rest of the way.

Kline led all scorers with 15 points and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Candace Cunningham notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards. Glaser and Melton contributed 12 a piece combining for four assists, three steals and 11 rebounds.

Beloit will head back to Iowa November 24 to take on Wartburg College in Waverly at 3 p.m. before returning to Flood Arena to open Midwest Conference play November 30 against Cornell College.
