The Beloit College women's basketball team fell to Dominican University (Ill.) 62-52 in the season opener in Flood Arena Thursday evening.

The difference came from the charity stripe where the Buccaneers shot just 47% making 17 of 36.

The Stars jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter but the Bucs chipped away at lead with Kelly Loudon's three-pointer pulling Beloit to within four, 16-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Beloit held within striking distance through the second quarter keeping the margin in single digits but were never able to take the lead as Dominican took a 28-21 advantage into halftime.

The Stars heated up from three-point range in the third quarter. Midway through the period, with Dominican leading 31-26, the Stars hit from deep on five consecutive trips down the floor to widen the gap to 46-26. Shelby Kline responded with a three-ball of her own but DU scored the final four points of the quarter to make it 50-29 with ten minutes left in the game.

The Bucs again worked their way back into the game in the fourth quarter using an 11-3 spurt to make it 54-40 with 4:32 left in the contest. Beloit cut that lead down to ten with just over a minute to play on a three-pointer from Shatera Howard but the Stars held on for the 62-52 win.

Kline, a senior guard, led the Bucs with 15 points and and added eight rebounds. Fellow senior guard Candace Cunningham registered 11 points and nearly notched the double-double with nine boards.
