The Beloit College men's basketball team came back from a five-point halftime deficit to top Knox College 58-42 on the road Friday night. Junior forward
Tristan Shoup became the 22nd men's basketball player in program history to join the 1,000 point club with nine points in the first half.
After reaching the 1,000 career point milestone in the first half, Shoup led the charge for Buccaneers in the second half Friday. He added 12 second half points bringing his game total to 21 and moving him into twelfth on the all-time scorer's list for Beloit College.
The Bucs shot nearly 63% (17-27) in the second stanza while Beloit's defense held the Prairie Fire to just 24% (5-21) from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
Facing an eight-point deficit early in the second half, 33-25, Beloit rattled off 10 straight points to take the lead 35-33 with 11:31 on the clock. The Bucs sealed the game in the final seven minutes outscoring Knox 15-4 during that span to capture the win.
Shoup and
Andrew Walters each tallied a double-double as Shoup added 12 rebounds to his 21 points and Walters posted 14 points and hauled in 13 boards. Point guards
Darin Empereur and
Santiago Aguilar combined for 10 points and nine assists in the game.
Beloit will head to Jacksonville, Illinois to take on the Blue Boys of Illinois College Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
