Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Bucs Fall to Monmouth

The Beloit College volleyball team fell to Monmouth College 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) in the team's final home match of 2019. The three Buccaneer seniors, right side Molly Muller, outside hitter Amanda Baran and setter Paige Wimbrow, were recognized during the match.

Both squads struggled offensively in the first set with the Scots hitting .068 and the Bucs just .016. Despite the offensively inefficiency, Beloit held the lead through much of the set. Monmouth was able to knot the score for the seventh time in the set at 22-22 and then took the lead, the fifth lead change of the set. The Scots scored three of the final four points to take the set 25-23.

Monmouth dominated set two jumping out to a 10-5 lead and then extending their advantage to 18-9. The Bucs made a short run but were unable to sway the momentum as the Scots took a two set lead in the match.

Beloit turned things around offensively in set three hitting .400 with 14 kills and no attack errors. Eva Laun-Smith bolstered those numbers with seven kills in 12 attempts in the set. Despite facing a 22-11 deficit, the Bucs refused to fold. Laun-Smith kicked off a run with back0to-back kills that made it 22-13. The Scots interrupted the run but Aryssa Harris re-started the spurt with a kill to make it 23-14. From that point, with Wimbrow at the service line, Beloit ran off five straight to pull within four, 23-19. A Scot kill made it match point. The Bucs forced two match points with kills from Harris and Muller but a final tally in the kill column for Monmouth sealed the Scots' 25-21 set three win.

Laun-Smith led all players with 17 kills on 40 attempts. She added a team-high 20 digs in the contest and registered the Bucs' lone block of the match. Muller recorded nine kills while Wimbrow dished out 29 assists adding two service aces. Jade Mosquera, Wimbrow and Baran joined Laun-Smith with double digit dig figures tallying 15, 15 and 13 respectively.

The Bucs wrap up Midwest Conference action Tuesday at St. Norbert College. Beloit's final matches of the season will take place at the Wisconsin Lutheran Tournament Friday and Saturday, November 1-2.
