Bucs Fall at Knox in Season Finale

The Beloit College football team wrapped up the 2019 season with a 27-11 loss at Knox College Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers opened the scoring with the defense leading to offense midway through the first quarter. Beloit's defense gave the Bucs great field position putting pressure on the Knox quarterback and forcing a fumble. Senior linebacker Andrei Prikhodko recovered the loose ball at the Bucs' 45. The offense capitalized on a Prairie Fire penalty to keep the drive alive. On fourth and four, Knox was penalized for having 12-men on the field to give the Bucs a first down at the KC49. Facing another fourth down, MJ Smith-Dukes was tapped for the carry and drove ahead for a seven-yard gain to move the chains and give Beloit another set of downs at the Knox 33.

Smith-Dukes took the next two handoffs with a Knox personal foul penalty on the second carry adding yards at the end of the run to give Beloit a first and ten at the Knox 11. The offense stalled but Alonso Casillas made good on a 30-yard field goal attempt to give the Bucs a 3-0 lead.

An unfortunate series of events saw Beloit's lead wiped away in Knox's next drive. The Bucs' defense forced another fumble, this time near midfield, but the Prairie Fire offense was able to recover and go the distance for a 50-yard touchdown on the fumble return.

The Bucs were unable to add to their total in the second and third quarters but ended the game on a high note.

In their second to last drive of the game, Beloit put together an 11-play, 65-yard scoring drive that took nearly five minutes off the clock. Nano Reyes and Tyler Assiff saw the majority of action in the drive. The Bucs' offense drove into Knox territory nearing the redzone before momentarily stalling. Facing a fourth and three, Alex Alvarez targeted Tyler Assiff near the endzone and as the pass fell incomplete a flag was thrown by the officials. Knox was called for pass interference giving Beloit a new set of downs at the Prairie Fire two-yard line. Smith-Dukes got Beloit one yard closer and Reyes pushed the ball across the goal line with a one-yard burst.

Beloit went for two and converted as Alvarez went back to his favorite target on the day, Assiff, to make it 27-11. The Bucs would get the ball back with just two seconds remaining in the game, enough time to run one play.

Alvarez was 11-29 for 73 yards. Reyes took six handoffs registering the one-yard touchdown carry. Assiff caught five Alvarez passed for 59 yards. Defensively, Jeff Vazquez led Beloit with 10 tackles including eight solo adding one tackle for a loss of three yards. Andrei Prikhodko added seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery in the contest.
