A scoring run midway through the second half led to a loss on the road for the Buccaneer men as Beloit College fell to Lawrence 71-60.
After an even first half with the score knotted 34-34 at the break, the Bucs came into the second half on a mission.
Andrew Walters got the offense going right away in the second half grabbing a defensive rebound on one end and nailing a three-pointer on the offensive side of the ball. A couple of baskets from
Tristan Shoup grew the lead and then
Michael Polakoski hit one from long range to give Beloit a seven-point lead, 44-37 with 16:43 on the clock.
The Bucs held on to their lead until the Vikings came roaring back. With the scoreboard showing 46-40 in favor of Beloit, Lawrence rattled off 10 straight in just over two minutes to claim the lead. Following the 10-point swing, the Bucs went cold offensively as the Vikings' advantage grew. Polakoski hit the final layup for Beloit with just over 30 seconds left in the game for the 71-60 final.
Statistically, Beloit was more efficient from the field shooting 48-percent from the floor and 30-percent from beyond the arc compared to Lawrence's 45-percent and 26-percent.
Turnovers proved costly for the Bucs as Lawrence capitalized on Beloit's miscues for 17 points while BC tallied just six points off turnovers in the contest.
Polakoski had a breakout game with 19 points bolstered a phenomenal shooting performance. The freshman was 8-10 from the field and 3-5 from three-point range in the contest. Shoup was also efficient going 7-10 from the floor and adding two from the charity stripe for 16 points. Walters posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Beloit on the glass.
Beloit will take a break from Midwest Conference action and return to Flood Arena to host MSOE Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bucs will wrap up 2019 with home contests on Wednesday, December 18 and Friday, December 20 against UW-Whitewater and Alma College respectively.
