The Beloit College men's lacrosse team fell to Midwest Lacrosse Conference leader Concordia Wisconsin 13-7 in the Buccaneers' home opener Saturday.
After a 2-1 first quarter in favor of the Falcons, CUW used their fast-paced offense to increase the margin to 8-3 at intermission. The Bucs were outscored 4-0 in the third but flipped it around to have a 4-1 advantage in the scoring column in the final period.
All of the first period scoring took place early in the quarter. CUW got on the board first with a goal at 12:01. Ezra Rogers tallied the equalizer off an assist from Mark Gannon just over a minute later. Just one more minute ticked away before the Falcons scored the third and final goal of the quarter with 9:57 on the scoreboard to give CUW a 2-1 advantage.
The Bucs' defense struggled to find an answer to the surging Falcons offense as CUW went on a 10-2 run over the next 30 minutes.
Facing a 12-3 deficit heading into the final period, the Bucs didn't fold. Gannon provided a spark with back-to-back goals at the 12:07 and 9:37 marks. CUW tallied their only score of the period at 8:49 before Michael Boyland entered into the scoring column at 5:35. Gannon beat the keeper once again with just seconds remaining for the final, 13-7.
Gannon led Beloit with three goals and one assists. Boyland beat the keeper twice in the game and added an assist. Luke Thomson led the Beloit with five groundballs.
David Kunczynski suffered the loss with the complete game in goal. He made 17 saves in the contest.
Up Next: The Bucs will host Monmouth College Wednesday, March 20. The initial faceoff is slated for 4 p.m.
