The Beloit College softball team split a doubleheader against Alverno College dropping the first game 13-9 and taking the nightcap 8-0 in five innings.
Two big innings provided the difference in game one. The Inferno posted six runs in the second inning. The Buccaneers responded with four in the third but Alverno came back with five more in the fourth.
Beloit kept the bats going with three in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-11 in favor of the Inferno. Two more for Alverno made it 13-7 but the Bucs didn't give up and pushed two more across in the bottom of the seventh for the final.
Five Bucs registered two hits in the game including Madi Christine, Emily Stapay, Alyssa Boltik, Alyssa Morris and Kat Grzeszkiewicz. Boltik suffered the loss on the mound.
Beloit put it all together in the second game cruising to an 8-0 win bolstered by a six-run fourth inning.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the second, Kaitlynn Taft singled to second base top lead off the fourth for the Bucs. Stephannie Lopez made it back-to-back singles with a shot to right field. Christine put the ball in play and had the shortstop checking the runners allowing the speedster and all the Bucs on base to reach safely. Stapay crushed a double down the right field line to plate the first two runs. Ashley Lambert followed up the double with a four-bagger that cleared the fence in left field. The three-run homer was the first for the Buc senior this season. The final run came later in the inning as Emily Clinkscales singled up the middle to score Boltik and make it 8-0 Beloit.
Morgan Lippert got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth to seal the win.
Clinkscales was the lone Buc to register multiple hits in the game going 2-for-3 in the batter's box with a run scored and two runs batted in. Eight Bucs tallied a hit in the game.
Boltik bounced back from the first game with a win in the nightcap. The lefty struck out three and walked one while scattering four hits in four innings of work.
On Deck: The Bucs will host MSOE Sunday for a pair of games starting at 1 p.m.
