The Beloit College baseball team split a twinbill with St. Norbert College winning the opener 4-2 before falling in the nightcap 7-5 in the road portion of the series Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers took an early lead in game one taking advantage of a wild pitch to tally the first run of the game in the top of the first. That score held until the top of the sixth when Beloit added one more as Ethan Conley's four-bagger provided a boost for the Bucs.
The Green Knights responded in kind with a two-run blast in the bottom of the inning to knot the game 2-2.
It was more of the same in the top of the seventh as Mitch Campbell connected for a homer and jacked a second homerun in the top of the ninth to secure the 4-2 win for Beloit.
Campbell bolstered the Bucs' offense going 2-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns and two RBI. Garrison Ferone also notched two hits in the game while Conley's long ball wrapped up the offense for Beloit.
Danny Belling went the distance for a complete game win on the mound. He struck out seven without issuing a walk while scattering five hits across nine innings without an earned run allowed.
The fans may have been feeling a bit of déjà vu as the Bucs plated the first run of the second game on another pitcher miscue, this time a balk.
The Green Knights responded in the bottom of the inning bringing in two runs to take a 2-1 lead after one inning. A double for SNC in the bottom of the second brought in two more to give St. Norbert a 4-1 advantage.
Beloit snapped a four-inning offensive drought in the top of the seventh exploding for four runs. Nick Schmidt brought in the first with an RBI single. Ferone put the pressure on with a bunt and another Green Knight miscue had Matthew Celentano touching home. Jalen Davis' groundout plated Schmidt and yet another SNC error plated the Bucs' fourth run of the inning and gave Beloit a 5-4 lead.
A passed ball in the bottom of the eighth brought the tying run across and a two-run homer led to the final.
Schmidt and Conley each registered two hits in the contest.
Four Buc hurlers saw action on the mound in the game as Jacob Sligar suffered the loss.
Beloit will host St. Norbert for the home portion of the series Monday beginning at noon.
