Michael Boyland tied the program record for goals scored in a game with nine to lead the Beloit College men's lacrosse team to a 19-7 win over Fontbonne Friday night at Strong Stadium.
In addition to Boyland's record-tying performance, Keeler Tardiff tied the program mark for groundballs in a game with 14 Friday.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead as Boyland notched two of his nine goals in the first five minutes of the contest but it was Mark Gannon who would take quarter scoring honors beating the Griffins' keeper on four occasions in the period. Beloit led 6-2 after the first and doubled up in the second to head into intermission with a 12-3 advantage.
Steven Soli tallied the final score of the first half and opened the second half with an unassisted goal less than 30 seconds into the third quarter. The Bucs outscored Fontbonne in each quarter en route to the 19-7 victory.
Two of Boyland's game-high nine goals were stunners as the pair of wrap-around shots froze the Griffins' defense and found the back of the net. He added one assists in the game for a total of 10 points in the contest. Gannon finished with six goals on ten shots, eight on goal. Corbin Odom was efficient winning 21-30 faceoffs with Tardiff the most active on loose balls, many off the faceoff, to tie the program mark with 14 groundballs. Luke Thomson provided the shutdown defense causing four turnovers in the game.
David Kunczynski made four saves in the game.
