The Beloit College softball team was swept by Monmouth 6-3 and 10-2 in a pair of games on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Scots jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first frame but the Buccaneers responded over the next few innings.
In the top of the second, Alyssa Boltik drew a leadoff walk and swiped second. Boltik advanced 60 feet on a groundout and touched home on Stephannie Lopez' sacrifice fly to right field to make it 3-1.
Callie Dutton kept the offense going with a single to open the top of the third. She advanced to second a wild pitch. Madi Christine put the pressure on the Monmouth defense with a single and a Scots miscue allowed Dutton to score and Christine to move up to second. A groundout had Christine at third and Ashley Lambert pushed her across with an RBI single to knot the game 3-3 after three.
That score held until the bottom of the fifth when the Scots capitalized on a leadoff triple to take a 4-3 lead. Monmouth added two more in the bottom of the sixth for the final.
Christine led the Bucs at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance. Boltik suffered the loss on the mound in 5.1 innings of work.
A three-run second followed by a six-run third for Monmouth in the nightcap put the game out of reach and led to the 10-2, five-inning final. Alyssa Morris suffered the loss on the mound. Emily Stapay led Beloit in the batter's box notching two of the Bucs' three hits in the contest and adding a run batted in.
The Bucs will head to Grinnell to take on the Pioneers for a twinbill beginning at noon Sunday. Â Â
