Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Bucs Go Five with MBU

For the second consecutive season, the Beloit College volleyball team went five sets with Maranatha Baptist. After registering the win a year ago on MBU's home court, the Buccaneers fell to the Sabercats in Beloit Tuesday.

The Bucs grabbed the momentum right out of the gate hitting .303 as a team and cruising to a 25-14 win in the first set. MBU took sets two and three 25-22 and 25-16 respectively before Beloit evened the match with a 25-23 win in set four. The Bucs held an 8-6 advantage at the side switch and  extended their lead to 12-9 in the set forcing a MBU timeout.

The Sabercats went on a 3-0 run on the other side of the break to knot the game 12-12. From there the teams traded kills to make it 14-14. A MBU kill made it 15-14 forcing head coach Lehua Kadooka to call a timeout but the Sabercats were able to post the final point for the five set victory.

The Bucs were much more active at the net defensively out-blocking the Sabercats 14-3 in the contest but MBU was more efficient in the attack game hitting .206 to Beloit's .176.

Individually, Amanda Baran added another mark in the Beloit College record book with 21 kills, a top five figure in program history. She now holds two top five marks after tying the second-most mark (23) in a match earlier this season.  Similarly, Paige Wimbrow added her name into another slot in the assist category. The senior setter, who set the program record with 51 assists earlier this season, tallied 48 assists in the match Tuesday, the third-most recorded in the current scoring era. Wimbrow added 18 assists against MBU.

Eva Laun-Smith added 20 kills and 20 digs in the match for Beloit. Defensively at the net, Molly Muller registered four blocks including a solo and three assisted while Regina Guehlstorf notched three solo blocks in the contest.
