The Beloit College men's basketball team jumped out to a quick start but were outlasted in the end by nationally ranked St. Norbert 72-55 Wednesday evening. The Green Knights are ranked 25th in the latest D3hoops.com poll.
The Buccaneers used the three-point arc to quickly build a lead in the first half. Beloit made 6-10 from long range while hitting 57-percent of their shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes to take a 34-31 lead into the intermission.
Andrew Walters was on fire leading all players with 11 points on 4-6 from the field, 1-1 from downtown and a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line in the half. He added an assist, two steals and one block in the opening period.
The Green Knights' offense got going in the second half outscoring the Bucs 24-12 in points in the paint in the period. The basket was less-than-friendly for Beloit in the second half as they shot just 32-percent from the field and 18-percent from beyond the arc while SNC hit 64-percent of their opportunities from the floor and 60-percent from three-point range. For the game, St. Norbert also held a 16-0 advantage in second chance points.
Walters led Beloit with 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and a block.
Tristan Shoup added 14 points, three assists, a steal and a block.
Darin Empereur dished out three assists and recorded three steals tying Shoup and Walters with team-high honors in the two categories.
Up Next: The Bucs will host Monmouth College Saturday at 1 p.m. The Scots registered the win earlier this season on their home court with a 70-60 win on January 4.
