The Beloit College volleyball team wrapped up the MMU Classic in Milwaukee with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-8) win over the host, Mount Mary University Saturday afternoon. The Bucs went 2-1 at the classic.
Kristina Sanchez led all players with 16 kills adding 21 digs in the team's final match of the tournament.
Regina Guehlstorf added 14 kills while outside hitter
Angela Donath pounded down 11.
Cora Linos dished out a season high 31 assists while
Abbie Schmidt added four aces from the service line.
Guehlstorf and Linos were stellar defensively at the net teaming up on five blocks each. In the backcourt,
Komachi Naoe registered 21 digs while Schmidt posted 16.
Saturday Match One Recap
The Buccaneer volleyball team dropped their second match of the MMU Classic hosted by Mount Mary University to Calumet College 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17) Saturday afternoon.
Beloit College out-blocked the Crimson Wave but Calumet was more efficient offensively.
Regina Guehlstorf had a fantastic match at the net hammering down 13 kills in 28 attack attempts while committing just two errors. She added a match-high three block assists. Setters
Cora Linos and
Abbie Schmidt tallied 16 and 12 assists respectively.
From the service line,
Komachi Naoe tied for match-high honors with three aces. In the backcourt, Naoe was one of five Bucs to register double digit digs. Kristina Sanchez and Maka Simao posted 17 each followed by Naoe with 15, Linos with 11 and Schmidt added 10.
Friday Recap
The Beloit College volleyball team topped Maranatha Baptist University 3-1 (25-14, 25-12, 19-25, 26-24) in their first match of the MMU Classic hosted by Mount Mary University.
The Buccaneer offense got going right out of the game hammering down 14 kills in the first set. They followed with their most efficient offensive set of the contest in set two hitting .333. The Beloit defense held their opponent to a .000 attack percentage over the first two sets leading to the lopsided victories.
Maranatha Baptist came back in set three and put the pressure on in set four but the Bucs were up for the challenge.
MBU jumped out to a quick 6-3 advantage in set four before Beloit came roaring back to knot the game 8-8. Another small run had the Bucs trailing 11-9 when they put together a 9-2 spurt to take a 17-13 lead in the set.
The set remained close as Beloit led 24-21 but were forced into extra points by a scrappy MBU squad. Still the Bucs powered through using a pair of kills from
Angela Donath to seal the set and the match.
Three Bucs registered double figure kills in the win led by Kristina Sanchez and
Regina Guehlstorf with 11 each. Donath posted 10 kills while Guehlstorf added four assist blocks.
Jade Mosquera had the hot hand from the service line to the tune of seven aces, the second-most in program history in the modern scoring era in a match. Setters
Abbie Schmidt and
Cora Linos tallied 22 and 18 assists respectively and
Komachi Naoe led the backcourt with 15 digs.
Beloit's second match originally scheduled for Friday against Finlandia was canceled. The Bucs will continue play in the MMU Classic Saturday.
