Buccaneer sophomore guard
Elizabeth Kalk notched her second career collegiate double-double in as many weeks but Beloit fell to Lawrence 60-48 in the squad's Midwest Conference opener on the road Wednesday.
The Bucs held a 10-8 lead after the first quarter but a big second for the Vikings gave LU a 25-18 lead at intermission. The deficit grew by just one in the third but the Bucs were unable to make the comeback in the final quarter of play.
Both teams struggled to find a groove offensively. Beloit shot 30-percent from the floor (18-61), 8-percent from distance (1-13) and 49-percent from the free throw line (11-24). Lawrence faired better from long range and the charity stripe but still struggled on their home court shooting 31-percent (20-65) from the field, 14-percent (3-21) from three-point range and 74-percent (17-23) from the line.
Kalk dropped 25 in the contest and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead Beloit. Fellow sophomore guard
Hannah Welte joined Kalk in double digits with 10 points.
