Bucs Sweep Ripon on the Road

The Beloit College baseball team swept Ripon College on the road Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers took game one 19-5 in a shortened seven-inning contest due to run-rule followed by a 9-2 victory in the nightcap. Note: The box score for game one shows inaccurate substitutions. These will be fixed as soon as possible.

The Buc offense came out hot scoring in six of the first seven innings of game one including a three-run second, a five-run third and a seven-run sixth. The defense held solid blanking the Redhawks in four innings.

Matt Crandall led the high-powered offensive onslaught. Going 3-5 at the plate he tagged a triple and two homers with three runs scored and program record tying seven runs batted in. Drew Freitag went 4-4 with four runs scored, two runs batted in and a walk. Two of his four hits were doubles. Bronson Balholm also registered four hits in the game including two doubles and a triple going 4-6 at the plate.

AJ Parnell picked up the win on the mound to move to 2-0 on the season.

The offense didn't let up in game two as Beloit took a 7-0 lead after three innings. The Bucs added two more in the sixth while Ripon got on the board with single runs in the seventh and eighth.

Beloit's seven hits came off the bats of seven different Bucs but Nick Schmidt, Balholm and Garrison Ferone each tallied multiple RBI in the win.

Jacob Sligar registered the win in the nightcap in seven innings of work to record his first win of the season.
