Bucs Wrap Up Play in Pointers Invitational

The Beloit College volleyball team wrapped up play in the Pointer Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-22) loss to Marian University Saturday afternoon.

The Sabres were rolling coming off a 3-2 win over Saint Mary's (MN) right before facing the Buccaneers. The high-powered Marian offense proved to be tough to handle as the Sabres hit nearly .400 in the match.

Isabel Conchillo Martinez led the Buc offense with seven kills while Abbie Schmidt and Cora Linos split setting duties with eight a piece. Linos led Beloit from the service line with a pair of aces. Defensively, four Bucs tied for team-high dig honors with five.

Carleton Recap
The Buccaneer volleyball team dropped a four-setter to Carleton in the team's second match in the Pointer Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point Saturday.

Carleton jumped out to a quick 7-0 advantage in the first set but Beloit came roaring back. The Bucs battled to push the set into extra points but Carleton was able to close it out with the final three points for the 28-26 victory. A few Carleton runs in set two had the Beloit deficit at seven points early in the set. Beloit continued to battle and once again worked their way back into the set. The Bucs took the lead 20-19 but Carleton responded with a four-point run. Beloit pushed a set point but couldn't complete the comeback falling in set two 25-22.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair until, with the Bucs leading 18-17, Beloit ran off six consecutive points. Following a pair of Carleton points, Katrina Sanchez put the finishing touches on the set with a kill to hand Beloit the 25-19 win.

Both teams battled in the fourth set, trading leads until late in the set when Carleton registered nine of the final ten points for the 25-16 set win and 3-1 match victory.

Regina Guehlstorf led the Bucs' offense hitting .303 with 13 kills in the match. Sanchez added double figure kills with 12. Abbie Schmidt and Cora Linos combined for 34 assists in the game while Schmidt had the hot hand from the service line with three aces. Four Beloit defenders registered double figure digs led by Angela Donath's 15.

Beloit will wrap up play in the Pointer Invitational at 2 p.m. against Marian.
