The Beloit College men's basketball team came back from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Knox College 60-53 on the road Thursday night.
The game was close throughout with Knox holding the lead most of the contest until midway through the second half. With just over seven minutes left,
Andrew Walters made good on an old-fashioned three-point play to give Beloit a 42-41 lead. The Bucs would maintain the advantage the rest of the way. Walters extended the gap to three on Beloit's next possession before Knox cut it back to one.
A pair of free throws from
Azeez Ganiyu pushed it back to three. Walters continued to impress on the glass hauling in a defensive rebound before Ganiyu pulled down his own rebound. As the shot clock ticked away,
Brian Rusch kicked the ball out to
Mylan Walters for a deep triple that hit the bottom of the net as the shot clock expired to make it 49-43 Beloit with five minutes to go.
Michael Myles negated a pair of Knox free throws nailing a shot from downtown that became key as the Bucs were whistled on three offensive fouls in four possessions. The Prairie Fire capitalized whittling the lead down to two, 52-50 with 2:30 on the clock. From there Myles dropped in a pair from the charity stripe before
Mylan Walters hit a dagger of a three to push the lead to seven, 57-50, with under two to go.
Knox would hit a three with a minute to play but the Bucs' defense shut them down the rest of the way adding a cushion on the offensive end for the final.
Ganiyu registered an impressive stat line Thursday leading all players with 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. He was 7-10 from the floor in the game.
Mylan Walters hit 3-5 from long range to bolsters a 13-point performance while fellow shooter Rusch was a perfect 3-3 from downtown for 10 points. The Walters duo each posted three steals while Andrew added four assists.
