The Beloit College women's basketball team jumped out to a quick lead and building a 10-point advantage after the first quarter but it wasn't enough as the Buccaneers fell to Monmouth 66-56 in Flood Arena Monday night.
T'Aira Boyance had her way to start the game dropping in the five buckets for the Bucs to put up 10 points in under three minutes of play. By the end of the first quarter, the lead swelled to 21-11 for Beloit.
The Bucs cooled off in the second, shooting just 23-percent from the floor, but remained close to head into halftime with a 32-25 lead. The league-leading Fighting Scots turned it on in the third outscoring the Bucs 23-11 in the 10-minute span to claim the advantage 48-43 heading into the final period. Monmouth held the lead the rest of the way.
Turnovers proved costly for Beloit as Monmouth tallied 30 points off Buccaneer miscues.
Boyance had another great outing hitting 11-14 for 23 points adding a team-high seven rebounds.
Elizabeth Kalk dropped in 17 and swiped three steals in the contest.
