MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Beloit's women's soccer team recorded their ninth shutout in their 14 games this season, defeating Cornell 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers held a 7-6 shot advantage in the contest, with the only shot on goal by either team coming on the lone score of the game.
The only goal of the match came just a few minutes after halftime when
Aspen Valentine recorded her second goal of the year in the 48th minute, coming unassisted.
Audrey Ketterer and
Maya Betzler combined for the shutout at Goal Keeper for Beloit, with each playing one half of the game. Cornell's Sabrina Ibanez played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Rams.
The win secures the third seed for the Buccaneers in next week's Midwest Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. Beloit will try to repeat as MWC Tournament Champions with their first test coming against Lake Forest College on Friday in the semifinal round. The winners of the two semifinal matches will play each other on Saturday in the MWC Championship game for the right to advance to the NCAA Division-III Tournament.
