KENOSHA, Wis. - Carthage shot 51 percent (32-63) from the field and 36 percent (8-22) from 3-point range en route to an 88-53 victory over Beloit College Wednesday night. Beloit finished the contest shooting 39 percent (18-46) from the field.
Beloit (1-3) scored the first two baskets of the game, coming from
Azeez Ganiyu and
Brian Rusch, and they wouldn't trail for the first nine minutes, before Carthage took a 13-11 lead midway through the first half. Carthage (1-1) would later take a 10-point advantage, but Beloit cut that lead in half to cut it to five on a dunk by Ganiyu with just two minutes left in the half. Carthage then scored eight unanswered points to end the half, taking a 45-32 lead into intermission.
Ganiyu scored the first basket of the second half to cut the lead to 11, but that's as close as the Buccaneers would get the rest of the night, as Carthage led by double digits for the entirety of the second period. Carthage finished the game scoring 31 points off 21 Beloit turnovers. Carthage also held a 19-6 advantage in second-chance points, while also outscoring the Buccaneers 44-20 in the paint.
Ganiyu led Beloit with 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Semaj Roy added 11 points off the bench, while Rusch and
Michael Myles each scored seven.
Antuan Nesbitt led all scorers with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting to lead the way for Carthage. Fillip Bulatovic and Colton Sigel each added 13 points, while Joey Jendusa scored 10 in 17 minutes off the bench.
Beloit will try to rebound on Friday when they'll host Maranatha Baptist. That game will begin at 7 p.m. at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
