The Beloit College track and field program opened the 2022 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track Championships Friday at Strong Stadium in Beloit with a number of personal bests. With six events scored and a number of prelims in the books to set the finals' fields, Saturday looks to be an exciting day at Karris Track and the Strong Stadium Complex.
Highlighting the scored events on day one was
Emiliano Reyes in the discus. His heave of 40.31 meters captured bronze Friday.
Leeland Crumm added points to the team total with a sixth-place height in the pole vault, 3.70 meters, while teammate
Diontia Charles registered a leap of 1.71 meters for eighth in the high jump.
A number of Buccaneers advanced to the finals with fantastic preliminary runs Friday.
Hannah Welte and
T'Aira Boyance each posted the top times in a pair of events. Welte ran a personal best in the 400 hurdles, 1:08.00, beating the next best time by over two seconds to register the top time heading into the finals. Welte also qualified in the 100 hurdles crossing the line with the fifth-best time of 17.36. Boyance's 25.41 in the 200 was the top prelim time Friday. Teammate
Jordyn McDonald will also run in the finals after posting the fourth-best prelim time. Boyance and McDonald will also compete in the finals of the 100 after qualifying second and fifth respectively.
The finals of the 400 will feature a pair of Bucs for both the men and women.
Alayna Furch and
Montana McMahon captured the fourth and eighth qualifying spots led by Furch's 1:01.78 in the event.
Brandon Joly was clocked in 51.28 for fifth in the men's prelims with
Alexandre Atou taking eighth in the prelims.
Ajani Joseph qualified for the finals in a pair of prelims Friday. His 11.06 in the 100 was sixth-best. He will also run in the 200 after posting a time of 22.90 to seal the final qualifying position by six-hundredths of a second.
The final day of the MWC Outdoor Championships is slated to begin at 10:30 Saturday morning.
