Track and Field Competes at Margaret Bradley Invitational

CHICAGO, IL –  The Beloit College track and field teams delivered a powerhouse performance today at the Margaret Bradley Invitational at the University of Chicago. Led by an impressive sweep from Josh Yearby (Hollywood, FL) and dominant showings in the throwing circles from Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) and Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.), the Buccaneers asserted themselves as a force to be reckoned with against a crowded field of regional talent.

Once again, Yearby proved to be the fastest man at the meet. He secured a clean sweep of the short sprints, starting with the 60 Meter Dash. After posting the fastest time in the prelims (6.86a), he returned in the finals to capture first place with an identical 6.86a.

Yearby wasn't finished, however. He returned to the track for the 200 Meter Dash, where he scorched the field to win with a time of 22.42a, finishing nearly half a second ahead of his nearest competitor.

Beloit's "throws" crew had a banner day, consistently placing athletes at the top of the leaderboards. On the men's side, junior Josh Martinez took home two silver medals. He placed second in the Shot Put with a toss of 15.15m and followed it up with a second-place finish in the Weight Throw, launching a personal best of 16.58m.

Sophomore Ian Phillips (Machesney Park, Ill.) joined him on the podium in the Shot Put, taking third place with a personal record of 14.52m, while also placing 7th in the Weight Throw (11.97m).

For the Beloit women, sophomore Adelaide Schmitt was the standout performer. Schmitt earned second-place honors in both of her events, throwing 11.20m (a personal record) in the Shot Put and 13.05m (another PR) in the Weight Throw. Freshman Reagan Lamb also contributed significant points, taking 5th in the Weight Throw (10.70m) and 7th in the Shot Put (9.09m).

The Buccaneers showed their depth in the relay events, with both the men's and women's 4x400 Meter teams taking home second-place finishes. The men's team of Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.), Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.), Yearby and Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) clocked a 3:31.16a. The women's team Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.), Allie Roberts, Syniyah Quenga (Urbana, IL)and Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) crossed the line in 4:22.03a.

In individual middle-distance action, freshman Anton Witzel (Erfurt, Germany) broke the two-minute barrier in the 800 Meter Run, finishing 10th with a personal best of 2:00.28a. On the women's side, freshman Addie Bogda (Collierville, TN) cracked the top ten in the 800 Meters, finishing 9th in 2:33.17a, while Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.) led the distance squad with a 12th-place finish in the 1 Mile Run (5:41.64a).

The Buccaneers' versatility was on display across the jumping pits. In the Long Jump, John Deary II (Avondale, LA) soared to a second-place finish in the men's Long Jump with a mark of 6.73m. Andrew Arhebun (Chicago, Ill.) also performed well, taking 6th place with a leap of 6.35m. Zwedie showcased his range by taking 6th place in the Triple Jump (12.16m) to go along with an 8th-place finish in the 200m dash (23.56a). In Pole Vault, Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) cleared 3.10m to take 3rd place for the women, while Cooper Rathmann (Milwaukee, Wis.) took 4th for the men, clearing a personal best of 3.05m.

The Buccaneers head to Grinnell next weekend for the 2026 MWC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Action from the Darren Young '93 Track and Field Complex is set to begin on 1 pm on Friday.
