Sophomores
Hannah Welte and Liz Kalk were golden in the second day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Beloit College at Strong Stadium Saturday. The pair won the 400 hurdles and high jump respectively to lead the Buccaneers. Additionally,
Brandon Joly was the league's Elite 20 recipient, awarded to the male and female athletes at the championship with the highest grade point average.
Joly, a junior mathematics and education and youth studies double major, carries a 4.0 grade point average. He is the second Buc to receive the honor, Melissa Pelkey who was the recipient in outdoor track and field in 2019, since the league began recognizing the Elite 20 during the 2015-16 academic year.
Welte and Kalk represented Beloit College at the top of the podium at the end of the championship meet Saturday. Welte cruised in her forte, the 400 hurdles, crossing the line in 1:07.13 for gold in the event. She added a bronze with a third-place time of 16.72 in the 100 hurdles Saturday. Kalk's gold may be the most impressive at the meet. In her first collegiate meet and first time competing in high jump since before high school, Kalk recorded the top height in the championship, 1.56 meters.
T'Aira Boyance secured a pair of medals Saturday in the two fastest events of the day. In the 100, Boyance came in second crossing the line in 12.40 in a fantastically close final, just .04 separated the second, third and fourth-place finishes. Jordyn McDonald added fifth-place points in both events.

Alexandre Atou and Joly finished back-to-back in the 400 for sixth and seventh led by Atou's time of 52.78.
Always the most exciting events of the championship, the relays delivered Saturday. The women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads finished with silver medals. The 4x100 combination of McMahon, McDonald, Furch and Boyance were just edged by Ripon recording a time of 48.40, taking second by .22.
Rose Loos-Austin joined McMahon, Furch and Boyance for the 4x400 for a silver medal time of 4:08.26.
The men's 4x100 podium race was incredibly exciting as the battle for bronze was won by just two-hundredths of a second as the Bucs' combination of Joseph,
Ahmasi Martin,
Desire Mukucha and Joly registered a time of 42.91. Joseph and Joly were joined by Atou and Quintin Lottig in the last event for the men Saturday. Beloit seemed to secure third with a time of 3:26.66 until a protest led to a disqualification and bumped the Bucs up to second in the final standings.
The Beloit women finished fifth at the meet while the men were eighth. Monmouth College won the title on the women's side and Ripon secured the men's title.
