Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Beloit Wins Barnburner To Defeat Grinnell For First Time Since 2016

BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's men's basketball team defeated Grinnell College 111-105 Tuesday night in what was their first win in the series since the 2015-16 season, snapping a 10-game losing streak against the Pioneers. Tuesday's contest featured 10 ties and six lead changes, while Beloit dominated the paint, outscoring Grinnell 62-38 in the lane.

The System was in full effect, with Grinnell (6-10, 2-6 MWC) putting up nearly 100 shots from the field, shooting 40 percent (37-92) from the floor, while converting 29 percent (16-55) of their 3-pointers. The Pioneers also pulled down 46 rebounds, with more than half of those (26) coming on the offensive side of the court. Grinnell scored 34 points off 28 Beloit turnovers, but it wasn't enough to overcome Beloit's strong second half, which saw them outscore the Pioneers by a 68-59 margin.

The Buccaneers (5-12, 2-7 MWC) shot 56 percent (37-66) from the field, including 64 percent (21-33) after halftime, while also converting 74 percent (34-46) of their free throws. They forced 20 Grinnell turnovers, which they turned into 25 points.

Beloit was led by Ryan Nixon's career-high of 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, to go along with six rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Azeez Ganiyu added 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting, while also pulling down a career-high 21 rebounds, which is the fourth-highest single game total in program history. Clayton Jenny also chipped in with 18 points, going 8-of-10 from the free throw line, while Semaj Roy scored 15 points in 15 minutes off the bench, making all six of his shots from the field, while also recording seven rebounds and two steals.

Beloit will now try to build on this performance Saturday when they'll travel to Illinois College. That game will begin at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill., as the Buccaneers try to avenge a 73-60 loss to the Blueboys earlier this season.
