BELOIT, Wis.- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team's historic season remained in tact this afternoon after the Buccaneers' rallied late in the second half to defeat the Eureka College Red Devils 77-70.
Despite the Red Devils shooting better than the Buccaneers in all three categories, 38.6% from the field, 38.1% from three and 85.7% from the free throw line, the Buccaneers saw 15 more points come from their bench and narrowly outscored Eureka in the paint and off turnovers.
With just over 13 minutes remaining in the 2nd half, the Red Devils took their largest lead, 50-37. Halfway through the half, momentum shifted following a Red Devil dunk. The Buccaneers' began to chip away. Am old fashioned three point play from
Clayton Jenny (Edgerton, Wis.) with 5:23 to go cut the Red Devils' lead to five (62-57).
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.) hit a three at 2:44 to give the lead back to the Bucs for the first time since the four minute mark of the first half.
The Buccaneers used four double-digit scorers to balance out the 27-point effort by Eureka's Cody Baer. Roy and
Brian Rusch (Edgerton, Wis.) each scored 16 for the Bucs. Roy added 8 boards and two steals, while Rusch recorded two rebounds and one steal. Jenny recorded 15 points on 4-7 shooting and 6-7 from the charity stripe. He pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) rounded out the double-figure scoring with yet another double-double. He scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.
The Buccaneers' look to keep rolling into 2024. They head to Jacksonville, Ill. on January 3rd to face MWC foe Illinois College. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.
