Beloit Wins Sixth Consecutive Game With Rout of Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - Since returning to Wisconsin from their spring trip two weeks ago, Beloit's baseball team hasn't lost, going 6-0 since coming back to the Midwest. The Buccaneers won their sixth consecutive game Saturday afternoon, defeating Knox College 13-0 in seven innings, which helped them improve their perfect record in conference games to 5-0 on the year.

Beloit (10-5, 5-0 MWC) put this game away early, scoring six runs in the top of the second inning to break a scoreless tie. Jack Alport drove in the game's first run with a single, which was followed by a two-run double by Matt O'Leary, and RBI from Garrison Ferone, Connor Vogel, and Brett Kiger. The Buccaneers added a seventh run in the third when Miles Souza scored on a wild pitch.

Kiger tacked on another ribbie in the fifth, smacking his league-leading fourth home run of the season, a solo shot. Beloit capped the scoring with a five-spot in the sixth. Connor Vogel singled home a run in that frame, while Evan Zenger drove in two with a triple. Souza and Jimmy Yanow also each drove in a run in that inning.

Beloit finished with 17 hits in the game, led by Souza, who went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored. Deven Irwin added three hits, while O'Leary and Kiger each recorded a pair of base knocks.

Aiden Phipps (4-0) earned the win, allowing just one hit and striking out five in the combined shutout. Phipps, who has earned the win in all four of his starts this season, lowered his team-best ERA to 2.16, while also lowering his WHIP on the year to 1.04.

The Buccaneers will battle Knox again on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at Noon. Those games will be played at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium in Beloit, Wis.
