BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's softball team took both games of their doubleheader against Lawrence University Sunday afternoon in what were the final games of the 2023 season. The Buccaneers won the first behind a 3-0 complete game shutout by freshman
Samantha Friedrichsohn, before also winning the nightcap in a convincing 12-1 victory that took just five innings.
The day's first game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, which saw Beloit (11-27, 3-13 MWC)Â score all three of their runs.
Jess Coppe drove in the day's first run with a single up the middle, which was followed by
Isabel Johnson crossing the plate via a wild pitch and an RBI single off the bat of
Maddie Moser.
Three of Beloit's four hits came in that sixth inning. Friedrichsohn allowed just three hits while striking out two batters in her seven inning complete game.
The second game saw Lawrence (5-33, 1-15 MWC) take their first lead of the day in the top of the first, but Beloit put a quick end to that lead, scoring nine runs on five hits in the bottom of the first. The Bucs scored their first run on an RBI triple by
Angela Donath, who later scored on an error.
Cora Aubert,
Paloma Reyes,
Briana Arteaga, and Moser each drove in one run, while Donath added a three-run double, giving her four RBI in the inning.
Beloit's other three runs came in the fourth inning, which saw
Stella Lutes score on a wild pitch. Aubert added an RBI double to left, and would later score on a throwing error.
Beloit's 12 runs came on 11 hits.
Jocelyn Jordan was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, while Donath and Johnson were each 2-for-2. Aubert (4-9) earned the win in what was the senior's final game as a Buccaneer. She did not allow an earned run, while giving up just four hits and striking out a pair of batters in the five inning complete game.
