RIPON, Wis. - Facing a six point deficit at the half, the Buccaneers needed to dig deep in the second half to keep their Midwest Conference Tournament hopes alive. Over the second half, the Bucs outscored the Red Hawks by ten, 40-30 to take home a 60-56 victory and stay in third in the MWC standings.
The Buccaneers (13-7, 7-5 MWC) outscored the Red Hawks (6-14, 4-7 MWC) in the paint, 34-24. Paint points were huge for the Bucs on a night where they only connected on 27.3% (3-11) of their threes. Down the stretch, Beloit hit clutch free throw after clutch free throw, shooting a season-high 89.5% (17-19) from the charity stripe.
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) led the Bucs with 24 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Ganiyu recorded his 17th double-figure scoring game this season.
Clayton Jenny (Edgerton, Wis.) was the next highest scoring Buc with eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Jenny went a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line. In 23 minutes of action off the bench,
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds.
The Buccaneers return home to Flood Arena on February 3rd to host the Cornell Rams. Tip off is set for 1pm.
