BELOIT, Wis. - This evening the Beloit College Volleyball team hosted non-conference foe Alverno College in a rematch of the Buccaneers first win of the season. The Buccaneers (2-13, 0-1 MWC) dropped the first set 17-25 before rallying back and winning the next three sets, including a 32-30 win in the third set. The Inferno (3-13, 0-4 NACC) were led by Rolin West, who hammered down 29 kills. Despite her best efforts, Beloit proved to be able to counter her attacks.
The Buccaneers recorded season-highs in nearly every major category, kills (53), assists (49) and digs. Freshman
Emily Ortiz (Aurora, IL) had the best game of her early career, leading Beloit with 25 assists and six aces.
McKayla "Maka" Simao (Sparta, Wis.) recorded a double-double with 21 digs and 13 kills. The trio of
Camille Ledoux (Saint-Liboire, Quebec, Canada),
Kierra Rayne Hoover (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and
Lizzie Paschal (Holbrook, AZ) were a force at the net, each recording two blocks. Ledoux led the Buccaneers with 14 kills while adding three service aces. Hoover also tallied 13 kills and Paschal followed with 16 assists.
The Bucs head back into league play on Friday when they travel to Lake Forest, Ill. for a match against the Foresters. That match is set to start at 7 pm at the Sports and Recreation Center.
