BELOIT, Wis. - This evening the Beloit College Women's Basketball team hosted the Eagles of Benedictine University.
After falling 73-42, the Buccaneers drop to 0-5 (0-0 MWC) on the season. The Eagles improve to 1-1 (0-0 NACC).
The Eagles established control early, building a 21-12 first-quarter lead and never looking back. The Buccaneers struggled to break the full court press and shot just 30.4% from the field. The Eagles posted 42.9% shooting and outscored the Buccaneer bench 42-15.
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) was Beloit's leading scorer with 11 points, but the Buccaneers' offense struggled to find rhythm throughout the contest.
Hadja Bayo (Round Rock, Texas) grabbed 8 rebounds in the losing effort, but Beloit was outrebounded 43-28 overall. Freshman
Bailey Darneal added a spark off the bench for the Bucs, adding nine points.
The game was effectively decided during a decisive third quarter where Benedictine outscored Beloit 22-9, extending their lead to 30 points. The size and physicality showed in the third with BU outscoring Beloit 24-16 in the paint. The bright spot for Beloit came from their free throw shooting, where they connected on 11 of 19 attempts (57.9%).
The Buccaneers are back at Flood Arena on Saturday against North Park. Tip off is set for 1 pm.
