Men's Basketball Gets Back on Track With Win Over Lawrence

BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Men's basketball team secured a convincing 66-48 victory over Lawrence University in Flood Arena this evening.  The Buccaneers (3-3, 1-0 MWC) dominated from the start, building a 38-26 halftime lead and maintaining control throughout the second half. They held the lead for over 38 minutes of game time, with their largest lead reaching 19 points.

Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.)led Beloit's offense with 20 points on efficient 6-9 shooting, including 7-10 from the free throw line and 1-2 from three-point range. Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) added 16 points on 4-9 shooting (2-3 from three) and perfect free throw shooting (6-6). Jabari Scuefield (Hazel Crest, Ill.) controlled the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with his 9 points, while Ryan Nixon (Waukesha, Wis.) contributed 7 points off the bench. As a team, Beloit shot 42.9% from the field (21-49), 41.2% from three-point range (7-17), and 73.9% from the free throw line (17-23). All seven of the Beloit Freshman saw the floor tonight, with Will Schubert (Fox Lake, Ill.) hitting a big three with under two minutes left in the first half. 

The Buccaneers' victory was built on advantages across the board - they out rebounded Lawrence 43-33, got more production from their bench (18-9), and dominated points in the paint (26-26) and second-chance points (5-10). Defensively, Beloit forced 12 turnovers and recorded 9 steals, with Carter leading the way with 4 steals. They also protected the ball well, with only 17 turnovers despite Lawrence's 9 steals. 

The Buccaneers head on the road this Sunday, to Monmouth, Illinois for a clash with the Fighting Scots. Tip off at the Huff Athletic Center is set for 3 pm.
