Baseball Sweeps Central to Extend Winning Streak to Five

AUBURNDALE, FL.- The Beloit College Baseball team defeated the Central College Dutch in both games of their double-header this morning. With the two wins, the Buccaneers' have pushed their winning streak to five and sit at 7-3 on the season. 

Game 1
In game one, Beloit struck first in the bottom of the second when Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) and Jacopo "JT" Tamburini (Bologna, Italy) hit back-to-back doubles to left field. The Dutch responded with a run of their own in the top of the third to tie the game at 1. In the bottom of the third, with the top of the order up, Matt O'Leary (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) singled but was caught stealing. Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.) doubled to right field to put a man on for Brett Kiger (Beloit, Wis.). Kiger launched his third homer of the year to push the lead to 3-1. Evan Zenger (Burr Ridge, Ill.) walked and scored on a Souza triple to left. Souza then came in to score on a passed ball. With Kiger back up in the bottom of the fifth, Beloit looked to add more. He led off the inning with a triple to right. Souza recorded his second RBI of the game when he batted Kiger in on a single to center. By the middle of the sixth, CC had added one run to make it a 6-2 game. Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) led off the inning with double to left. O'Leary singled to right to put runners on the corners. Vogel doubled, scoring both Alport and O'Leary. Kiger hammered his second homer of the game to extend the lead to 8, 10-2. Following the home run, Souza singled and moved over to second when RJ Pouzar (Hartford, Wis.) walked. Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.) came into pinch run for Souza. A fielder's choice for Blake Nelson (Monument, CO.) put runners on second and third. Bremer came home to score on a wild pitch. The. Bucs' shut it down in the top of the seventh and took game one by a final score of 11-2. 

Starting pitcher Kaiya Nishino (Seattle, Wash.) went 5 and a third innings, giving up five hits. Tommy Murray (Rockton, Ill.) and Joshua Stern (Malibu, Calif.) each went one inning in relief. 

Game 2
Beloit saw a bit of an offensive slow down in game two, not scoring until the top of the fourth. Kiger led off the inning with a walk. Souza hit an infield single to put runners on first and second. Tamburini tripled to right, scoring both base runners. Brendan Meyers (Palatine, Ill.) hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Tamburini from third. The Bucs' led 3-0 after 3 and a half innings. Central got one back in the bottom of the fourth to make it a two run, 3-1 game. In the top of the fifth, O'Leary became the only Buc besides Kiger to homer this season when he launched one over the right field fence. Kiger reached on a HBP and scored on a Zenger double to right. Beloit's sixth run came around after Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) pinch hit and walked. After advancing on a passed ball, Alport brought him home with a single to left. The Dutch added one in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 6-2 game heading into the final inning. Beloit extended their lead to five in the top of the seventh before closing the door on the Dutch in the bottom of the seventh. 

Eamon Burke (Helena, Mont.) got the start on the mound, going four innings and giving up 3 hits while striking out five. Micah Wilk (Martinez, Calif.) pitched one inning of relief before Harvey Pena (Riverside, Calif.) shut it down over the final two innings. 

The Buccaneers have one more game in Florida before heading back up north. They face off with the North Park Vikings tomorrow at 11 am CT.
