Softball Burned By Firebirds

KENOSHA, Wis.- The Beloit College Softball team hit the field today for the first time since returning from Florida over a week ago. The Buccaneers headed to Carthage College for a double-header against the Firebirds. The Buccaneers (2-12) were defeated by the Firebirds (9-5) in both games, 1-7, 1-6. 

Game 1: L, 1-7
The Bucs' wasted no time getting on the board in game one, scoring in the top of the first. Lylah Murrah (North Pole, AK) led off with a walk and immediately stole second. Murrah moved to third when Angela Donath (Wausau, Wis.) had a productive out. Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, IL) followed up with a single to center, scoring Murrah. Carthage answered in the bottom half of the inning, sending three runs across the plate. The Buccaneers struggled offensively for the rest of the game, leaving four runners on bases over the remainder of the game. 

Witte got the start in the circle, going four innings. Samantha Friedrichsohn (Waukesha, WI) came in over the final two innings. 

Game 2: L, 1-6
In game two, the Firebirds put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first. By the top of the fifth, Carthage had taken a 5-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, Allison Olson (Sandwich, IL) started the rally with a double to left center. Isabel Johnson (Austin, Texas) walked to put runners on first and second. Paloma Reyes (Beloit, Wis.) reached on a fielders choice that cut down Johnson and second and advanced Olson to third. Reyes moved over to second on a stolen base. Jocelyn Jordan (Beloit, Wis.) walked to load the bases. Murrah came into pinch run for Jordan before Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.) singled to left field, to score Olson. Murrah was thrown out trying to go from first to third, ending the Bucs' rally. 

Friedrichsohn, Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Witte all went two innings in the game two loss. 

The Buccaneers' return to the field on Tuesday at Alverno College. First pitch for game one at Alverno Softball Field is set for 3 pm.
