Softball Drops Both Against Foresters

BELOIT, Wis. - Wind and rain ruled the day this afternoon for Beloit College Softball's double-header against the Foresters of Lake Forest College. The Buccaneers (8-26, 2-10 MWC) took advantage of the wind first, launching one home run in game one. After an almost two hour rain and lightening delay, the Foresters (21-11-1, 12-0 MWC) smacked five home runs in game two. The Bucs fell in both game, 4-13 in game one and 13-0 in game two.

Game 1:
The Buccaneers plated the first run in the bottom of the first. Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) doubled down the left field line to become the first Beloit base runner of the game. Rachel Overocker (Tinley Park, IL) drew a walk on a ball that got away from the catcher and allowed Meyers to move to third. Starting pitcher Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, IL) put herself ahead with a single through the left side to score Meyers. The Foresters answered in the top of the second by tying the game at one. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bucs snatched the lead right back. Stella Lutes (Riverside, IL) singled to center to put a runner on for Allison Olson (Sandwich, IL). Using the gusty winds, Olson crushed a home run to left center, her second of the season.

LFC took a 5-3 lead in the third after pushing four runs across and extended their lead to 7-3 by the middle of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Beloit got one run back, but weren't able to manufacture any more runs. Overocker reached on an error by the center fielder to put a runner on with one out. Witte singled to center to move Paloma Reyes (Beloit, Wis.), who was pinch running over to second. Both runners moved up 60 feet. Hannah Beran (Calendonia, Ill.) came into pinch run for Reyes after a collision at third. Beren scored on a single up the middle by Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.). In the top of the sixth, the Foresters pushed six runs across and secured a 13-4 victory in game one.

Witte went 2-for-2 in game one with an RBI and a walk. Olson went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and one run scored.

Game 2:
After an extended lightening delay, game two started around 5 pm. After a scoreless first inning by both teams, the Foresters busted open the game with a six run second inning that featured two home runs. In the bottom of the second, Witte led off the inning but a fly out and back to back strike outs left her stranded at first. Two more LFC bombs in the top of the third, pushed the lead to 9-0. Meyers singled to center and landed on second after the center fielder misplayed the ball, but became the second Buc left on base when a pop up ended the inning. Lake Forest's fifth home run of the game extended their lead to 11 in the top of the fourth. Over the fourth and fifth innings, the Bucs only put two runners on, one in each inning with Arteaga and Jocelyn Jordan (Beloit, Wis.) both reaching via walks but neither runner made it to second.

With storms making their way through Wisconsin over night, the Buccaneers' double-header scheduled for tomorrow at Ripon has been rescheduled. The games will now be played on Monday, April 29th at 3 & 5 pm.
