LEXINGTON, KY. - The 2024 Beloit College baseball season came to an end this afternoon after the Buccaneers fell to the host of the Lexington Regional, Transylvania University. The Bucs end the year with a 24-17 overall record and a 14-10 MWC record.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before starter
Ben Schweit (Simi Valley, CA.) settled in.
Brett Kiger (Beloit, Wis.) singled through the left side in the bottom of the first but was left stranded. TU added one run in the top of the third after a lead off single, quick base running and a BC throwing error. A few batters later, they extended their lead once again with a two run home run.
The Buccaneers put one run on the board in the bottom of the third.
Brendan Meyers (Palatine, Ill.) hit a pinch hit lead off double down the left field line.
Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) grounded out to second but pushed Meyers to third.
Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) followed with an infield ground out of his own, but drove in Meyers in the process. Transylvania scored their fifth and final run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. The scoring ended in the bottom half of the inning when Beloit pushed their second run across. Alport led off the inning with a single to center, Souza singled to left to move Alport up ninety feet. Kiger smashed a ball just passed the pitcher, but hit the infield umpire, only allowing everyone one base.
Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.) singled in Alport with a ball through the right side.
Schweit was lifted after six innings. He posted a seven hit, seven strike out day.
Harvey Pena (Riverside, Calif.) went two innings with a hit, walk and strikeout.
Tommy Murray (Rockton, Ill.) closed out the ninth with three fly outs.
The future is bright for the Bucs, who featured seven Freshman in their lineup over the weekend. Schweit has cemented himself as the number two pitcher on staff and will look to build off a stellar freshman campaign.
