BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College men's basketball team (6-8, 2-4 MWC) fell to Monmouth College (10-4, 4-1 MWC) in a competitive conference match up at Flood Arena on this afternoon.
The Buccaneers played an efficient first half, converting 57.1% of their field goals and 66.7% from three-point range to take a 35-34 lead into halftime. Sophomore guard
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) led the balanced Beloit attack with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while fifth-year forward
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) added 12 points and collected a team-high 9 rebounds.
Beloit maintained their hot shooting but struggled to contain Monmouth's offense in the second half. The Fighting Scots outscored the Bucs 41-34 in the final period, largely due to their success at the free throw line where they converted 14 of 20 attempts.
Ryan Nixon (Waukesha, Wis.) provided a spark for Beloit with 13 points on efficient 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bucs with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Despite the loss, Beloit showed impressive ball movement throughout the game, recording 12 assists on their 25 made field goals. The Bucs also demonstrated their three-point shooting prowess, connecting on 8-of-16 attempts from long range.
The game featured 8 lead changes and 8 ties, with Beloit holding the advantage for 10:35 of game time. The Bucs' largest lead came in the first half when they went up by 10 points with 2:51 remaining before intermission.
The Bucs will regroup before hosting Grinnell on Tuesday. Tip off from Flood Arena is set for 7:30 pm.
